Project Live Green

Summary

Project Live Green is a Smart Trash Can Monitoring System which enables any information required party (Relevant Authorities etc.) while being anywhere and at any time, to monitor, analyze and obtain real-time information about amount of trash inside a trash can in any particular location. This system was developed using Arduino, various sensor, modules, and it could be used evolve and optimize the garbage collection process.

Our main objective of developing the Smart Trash Can Monitoring System is to do our part as IT students to make the world smarter, more convenient and more efficient, so that even a physical process such as the collection of garbage could be automated (Smart).

Our Sub-Objectives are as follows,

  • To be able monitor garbage levels in trash cans from anyplace, at any time.
  • To Automate the Garbage Collection process.
  • To be able to provide well-optimized garbage collection routes.
  • To reduce the spread of diseases caused due to poor waste management.
  • To make the world a cleaner and healthy place.

Some of the main features of our project are,

  1. Real-time garbage level monitoring
  2. Instantaneous responses (Alerts)
  3. Efficient waste management
  4. Stoppage of overflowing trashcans
  5. Cost-effective and efficient design

Components

The IoT element includes all the hardware they are built into our trash can so that it could be a Smart Trash Can.

It includes,

  1. NodeMcu ESP8266 Development Board
  2. GPS Ublox 6M Module
  3. Ultrasonic HC-SR04 sensor

NodeMcu ESP8266 Development Board

  • This is a development board aimed for IoT application and it runs on the ESP8266 Wi-Fi SOC.

GPS Ublox 6M Module

  • This is a GPS receiver with an inbuilt antenna.

Ultrasonic HC-SR04 sensor

  • It is sensor that could be used to gather the distance with the use of ultrasonic waves.
